Have you read His word?
It is vitally important that we talk to God. This is done through the avenue of prayer. It is also just as important that we know what God has said in order to be pleasing to Him. The Apostle Paul said, “Study to show thyself approve unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Tim. 2:15). Since the apostle said to study so that that you may rightly divide the words of truth, we can gather that God’s word can be wrongly divided. Thus, we need to study it with the idea of “I want to know what God says.
Jesus said, as recorded in John 14:15, “If you love me, keep my commandments.” How can one keep those commandments if he never lets God speak to him? Is it not strange that some will profess to love God, and yet neither follows His will for man, nor study His word so they may follow it? The Apostle John stated, “Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: For he that biddeth him God speed is a partaker of his evil deeds” (2 John 9-11). My friends notice the warning that John has given. I must know God’s will because, if I am not abiding in it, I am not with God spiritually. Furthermore, John warns that if I bid God speed to false teachers, I will be held responsible for encouraging them. 2 John 9-11 mandates that Christians allow God to speak to them. This is simply done by studying and rightly dividing His Word.
The Apostle Peter penned, “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear” (1 Peter 3:15).

Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.” (Col. 4:5-6)
