Doing All
You Could Do
By
David Shearer
In Mark
chapter fourteen we read of a flask of valuable ointment that was
broken and poured over Jesus head. I’m sure we have all read this
factual account, but have we always absorbed everything that is
happening.
First,
notice how Mark records what happened. “But there were some
that had indignation among themselves, saying. To what purpose hath
this waste of the ointment been made?” Verse 4.
I thought it
interesting that not all has the same way of thinking. “…And
they murmured against her.” Verse 5
Now, I
thought to myself this rings so true even today. People are quick to
be accusatory of others actions and intentions. When one thinks
about it this is revealing of the heart of one making the accusations
often times. The assumptions made many times prove wrong.
Jesus
understanding the ins and outs of this situation set the record
straight knowing their hearts, said “…Let her alone…”
Verse 6. He went on to say in Verse 8, “She had
done what she could.” To me He is telling us that she gave it
her all for His sake.
There are valuable lessons to be learned from these
short verses that could solve a lot of misunderstanding in our lives.
Think if everyone did everything they could to right every wrong.
Took every opportunity to show more love for one another.
Overlooked others misgivings in hopes that others would overlook
ours.
This woman is remembered wherever the Gospel is
preach because “She hath done what she could.”
Verses 8, 9.
How will you be remembered when you’re gone, maybe
more importantly how do folks look at you now.
