RELIGIOUS DILIGENCE

The Bible also demands diligence in spiritual matters:

  • The heart is to be kept diligently – “keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life” (Proverbs 4:23).

  • Christ knew the value of working today – “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work” (John 9:4).

  • No season permits indifference – “Be instant in season, out of season” (II Timothy 4:2).

  • Diligence is required to make calling and election sure—“Give diligence to make your calling and election sure” (II Peter 1:10).

  • There is no escape for those who neglect—“How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation.” (Hebrews 2:3)

  • Be diligent to be blameless – “Be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless”  (II Peter 3:14).

  • Stay ready – “And they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut” (Matthew 25:10).

DOMESTIC DILIGENCE

  • Failure to provide for one’s own is a denial of the faith -- “But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than infidel” (I Timothy 5:8).

  • The model woman – “riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household” (Proverbs 31:15). “She eateth not the bread of idleness” (Proverbs 31:27).
