QUESTIONS THAT MATTER
Answered by Kerry King
  1. What is the difference in union and unity?
The difference between ''union'' and "unity" can be demonstrated by an example. A police officer joined to a criminal by means of handcuffs is a unionbut they do not have unity. Just the fact that they are traveling the same direction does not mean they are in agreement. So,it is in the 'religious world. Religious bodies can have ''union''on particular subjects such as evolution, murder, adultery, fornication, homosexuality, marriage/divorce. But until we all come to an understanding that the Bible is the absolute standard of' right and wrong, and are willing to let the Word of God determine what is sound doctrine (Titus 2:1), until we all, as Paul put it in 1 Cor,1:10, "Speak the same things" on subjects such as God's plan of salvation (hearing, believing, repentance, confession, and baptism for the remission'of sins),'sinfulness of using instrumental music in worship, THERE CAN BE NO UNITY! Unity is defined as a state of oneness and agreement and until we have that oneness with God's Word, unity cannot exist.
     2. Is it unchristian to defend the truth against error?

To defend the truth against error is a direct command of God. The apostle Paul wrote in Phil 1:7, "I am set for the defense of the gospel." In all of his letters Paul did exactly that. To the Galatians he wrote "I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ, 8 But though we; or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed."

John wrote in 1 John 4:1 “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God; because many false prophets, are gone out into the, world.”

One of the qualifications of elders is to be able with sound doctrine-to exhort and convict the gainsayer (Titus 1:9). Jude 3 tells us to "earnestly contend for the faith."

1 Peter 3:15 says, "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:"
We must remember, however,  do so in a spirit of meekness (Gal 6:1).
