Satan’s Existence For The Glory Of God

By Curtis Ritchwood

It is fact that God has all authority not only on earth, but also in the heavens. Psalm 135:6. Therefore, God has authority over Satan. Revelation 20:10. If He has authority over Satan, then Satan’s functioning is not without permission. Job 2:6. In Luke 22:31 Satan had to get permission from God in order to meddle with the apostles. Why then is He allowing Satan to do what He does?

To comprehend what was aforesaid, we must realize that everything was made for the glory of God. Colossians 1:16, Isaiah 43:7. Seeing that God created all things for His glory and the devil is a created being, the conclusion must be drawn that the existence of Satan is for the glory of God. However, God did not create the evil, everything He creates is absolutely good. Genesis 1:31. The devil’s evil behavior is by choice. Like human beings, spiritual beings were created with the right to choose. 2 Peter 2:4, Jude 1:6.

Since Satan decided to behave in an evil fashion, God uses this behavior for His glory. This reaction by God is seen in the life of Pharaoh, “For by now I could have stretched out my hand and struck you and your people with a plague that would have wiped you off the earth. But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.” Exodus 9:15-16.

Because God exhibited the power of Satan, we know His power is superior. Revelation 12:9. As a result, we wholly trust in Him as we fight the good fight without fear knowing that our God is all powerful even in the spiritual realm. Revelation 12:10-11.

The Bible says in I Peter 5:8 “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” Thus, as long as we stay alert and keep a sober mind, we have nothing to fear. Nevertheless, if we allow ourselves to get caught in the snare of the devil by being overcome by his temptation, we can rest assured that the escape that God provides is flawless. 2 Timothy 2:26, I Corinthians 10:13. In other words, we can count on our freedom!

“You belong to God, children, and you have conquered them, for the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world,” I John 4:4, “Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil,” Ephesians 6:10-11.
