Guilt: And The Blood
By A.C. Quinn

The shedding of the precious blood of Christ can only be partly understood until one grasps the arresting nature of guilt. While the word itself is found only once in the Bible (Deut. 19:13), references to it are many and in every case it is inextricably related to sin. It was for sin that Jesus shed his blood (Matt. 26:28; Heb. (922).
Guilt, is simply the feeling or condition of conscience one has for his wrong-doing and the realization of his responsibility for that wrong—sinful—action. Regardless if the description is by poet, philosopher or theologian, the gruesome result of sinning is the same—guilt. Someone has said, “Guilt upon the conscience is like rust upon iron, both defiles and consumes it, growing and creeping into it, as that does which at last eats out the very heart and substance of the metal.” So says another, “Guilt once harbored in the conscience breast, intimidates the brave, degrades the great.” There is a remedy—only one remedy-for the guilty soul.
There is a fountain filled with blood, drawn from Immanuel’s veins; and sinners, plunged beneath that flood. Lose all their guilty stain.” Truly there is “Power in the precious blood of the Lamb”—power to cleanse the guilty stains which have marred the soul of man. May the Lord give His church the moral and spiritual strength and desire to point lost souls to that fountain.
