TO TELL THE TRUTH

Wherefore putting away all lying, speak every man the truth with his neighbor”… (Eph. 4:25)

It is not always comfortable to live with the truth. Today’s attitude has been warped and twisted with a show of “tact and diplomacy. Truth should be highly prized and scrupulously followed. Solomon said, “Buy the truth, and sell it not.” (Prov. 23:23) Our Lord made this statement regarding truth: “And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” (Jno.8:32) It is a shame, but all too often the truth is ignored or evaded, and people remain in bondage to ignorance and error.
Many times the man who declares the whole counsel of God, clearly and openly, is branded as one who is devoid of understanding, love, compassion, and even good etiquette. Paul asked the question, “Am I therefore become your enemy because I tell you the truth?” (Gal. 4:16) There can be nothing good coming from adding error. Anything short of the whole truth is deception.
The gospel must never become adulterated because of our evasion of sound doctrine! Basic truth must not be camouflaged with soft sounding words and fancy phrases that take away from its demands. Christians cannot afford to indulge in evasion, ambiguity and double talk. Sometimes it seems people want more time spent on “homiletic organization and preparation” than simply speaking the purity and force of the gospel message. Paul said, “But speak thou the things that become sound doctrine.” (Titus 2:1) Let us pray for courage to answer every man with clarity of speech; and let the truth be spoken by all and tempered with love. Only then have we truly discharged our responsibility to God and our duty to dying man.

Let the lying lips put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.” (Ps. 31:18)

Remove from me the way of lying: and grant me thy law graciously.” (Ps, 119:29)
