Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.”
1 Corinthians 10:12

Lest They Fall”
By Robert Courtney

There are many people that think once they have been saved through the blood of Christ that they cannot fall from His grace. There is no validation of this in the scriptures. Paul tells us we need to be sure we are following the Word of God lest we fall away and are lost.
There are many examples in the Old and New Testament of people being told by God what to do but failed to follow as directed. For example, Saul failed to follow God’s instruction concerning the destruction of the Amalekites and in doing so it cost him his kingship for himself and family. (1Samuel 15 and 16:1)
Peter denied Christ three times. Afterward realizing what he had done he wept bitterly (Matthew26:69-75). While Peter wept, Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus. Judas realizing what he had done and hanged himself. (Matthew 26:14-16,47-49; 27:3-5)
Paul tells us in Hebrews 10:26 “For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice from sins.” Peter wrote in 2 Peter 2:20-21, “For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.”
If God did not spare His angels that sinned but cast them into hell, do we think that He will not do the same to us? (2 Peter 2:4; Jude 6).
Just as God punished His angels He also punishes those who have sinned against Him. Saying that I am a Christian and I am OK will not suffice. Paul tells to examine ourselves to see if we are in the faith. (2 Corinthian 13:5) After we examine ourselves and found we are in the faith, we should continue to grow and stay on our path. If we find we have strayed, we need to repent and work hard to return to Christ and do not repeat what caused you to sin.
