ARE CHRISTIANS CULTISTS?
By A. C. Quinn

It is sad but true, we Christians are cultists—according to the world’s definition of the term. The following is a quotation from Janet Reno, Attorney General in the Clinton administration:
“A cultists is one who has a strong belief in the
Bible and the second coming of Christ; who frequently
attends Bible studies; who has a high level of financial
giving to a Christian cause; who home schools their
children; who has accumulated survival foods and
has a strong belief in the Second Amendment; and
who distrusts big government. Any of these may
qualify a person as a cultist but certainly more than
one of these would cause us to look at this person
as a threat, and his family being in a risk situation
that qualified for government interference,”
“60 Minutes” June 26, 1994 via ”Texarkana
Gazette”
AG Reno’s statement is quite typical of the anti-Christian sentiment which has developed over the last twenty years or more. It appears that Christianity is the only religion which may be attacked with impunity by the atheistic, secularist world. That, however, should not come as a surprise to Christians.
Jesus taught his followers while he was upon the earth that they would have to endure the hate and wrath of men: Matthew 5:11  Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. 12  Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. Jude continued the warning that there would be mockers: Jude 1:17  But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; 18  How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts. 19  These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit. 20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.

So, the world sees folks who believe in the Bible and the message of salvation it brings as cultists, let it be. Christians can live above and beyond such, because there is a crown awaiting those who live and die by its precepts (2 Tim. 4:8; Rev. 2:10). That is enough for us to “…earnestly contend for the faith” (Jude 3). May God help us stand.
