IS LYING ACCEPTABLE?
By Robert Courtney

In our world today LYING seems acceptable and there are no consequences. It makes no different whether it is spoken or written.
Webster defines it as “making a statement that is knowingly false, the intent to deceive, or to habitually make false statements.”
The first lie we see is found in Genesis 3. The 13thverse Eve says the serpent deceived her in which Adam believed Eve and in the end God punished all three; the serpent, Eve and Adam. Exodus 20:16 it is written, “You shall not bear false witness against you neighbor.”In Proverbs 19:9 tells us, “A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who speaks lies shall perish.”John 8:44 says“You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murder from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a lair and the father of it.

There are many other verses found in the Bible concerning lying. But we can take these verses and learn from them. The first thing we learn is God does not like a liar and secondly, one who does lie will be punished. Third, one who lies walks with the devil and fourth, as one walks with the devil they will continue to sin and begin to do other sinful things separating themselves from God.

We as Christians need to be aware with whom we associate and who we are listening too and what we are reading. “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17. The Christian must study God’s Holy Word to be able to fend off the devil (1 Peter 5:8). We need to humble ourselves before God and cast our cares on Him that He may exalt us in His time.

Who is a liar but he who denies that JESUS is the CHRIST?  He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son.” 1 John 2:22
