How Do They Look At Me?
By David Shearer

Isn’t this a great question? Now you may take many directions in answering it. Such as, “I’m me, and they have to take me just as I am.” Many will say this, but then spend hours primping and preening in front of a mirror. Face it, most of all, to some extent, give some thought, if not worry about how others look or think of us.

What if the question was this? What characteristics do I project to others that would convince them I am a genuine Christian, truly converted? Whoa, that puts a different light on things doesn’t it? What things do you do that make people see Christ in you? Wait! Maybe that should be, “what things do I do that I shouldn’t do and people see?

If you’re an average person, even if you have a few faults you think you are OK. After all I’m a good person compared to a lot in the world. STOP right there! Are we justifying or rationalizing ourselves to avoid the truth.

Do we lie? I hope not; everyone likes to speak the truth but often we lie to ourselves into thinking we are doing or saying right. You might say I fib a little or tell a white lie, but that doesn’t count. Hummm, that’s not what Revelation 21:8 says. It says “All Lairs are going to hell.” We could also mention gossip or ….any number of things.

People look and remember what we call the “little things” such as lying. Most of you know people who have lied to you. Remember we are not naïve. Why? Because most of the time when people lie they slip-up along the way. Don’t forget that a lot of times action speaks louder than words. Wait, we’re talking about how we look at people. Don’t you suppose they are looking at us the same way? That’s food for thought.

People were looking at Thessalonica too. How do I know, because Paul tells us about them in 1 Thessalonians 1:2-10. He saw what they were doing, they were demonstrating to others their true conviction and devotion to Christ and His teachings.

Many people like the cliché say, “Like to talk the talk, but they don’t walk the walk.”

How about you? Are you a walker or a talker? Others will know because they are watching you.
