What
Causes Us To Endure?
By
Kerry King
Just
as Paul was to receive a reward for fighting the good fight of faith, so will
we receive a reward from remaining true to God’s Word. Truly, the reward that God has offered to all
who live faithful is the primary reason that many will live their lives to
glorify Him (Mt. 5:16). To a Christian
that is completely saturated with God’s promised reward, it seems easy to keep
the commandments (I John 5:3). Jesus,
himself, gave us the perfect example to follow.
He lived upon this earth and was tempted in every way as we are, yet He
was without sin (Heb 4:15). He is now
reigning in heaven with the Father. This
gives the faithful follower a reason and purpose to make sure we endure (John
14:3). God’s Word gives us the strength
to carry the burden of spreading the gospel.
As we grow as Christians, we should come to a better understanding that
our sojourn upon earth is to do one thing, spread the gospel which glorifies God. We are strangers in this world, knowing that
god’s Word is our strength to carry us into the third and final rest that
remains for those who endure (Heb 4:9).
The faithful brethren
that we work and worship with encourage us to be even more faithful. It is so much easier to endure when you have
others striving alongside you, encouraging you to endure to the end. By diligently studying God’s Word we are able
to discern good and evil. This gives us
the ability to withstand the trials and tribulation of this world. Then, of course, there is the strength we get
from knowing that Christ is with us and that He has defeated the enemy (Mt.
28:20’ John 16:33) and invites us to overcome so that we can come over to live
with Him forever (Rev 3:21
